Six Core Principles

All scientific endeavors are guided by a unified value foundation.

Research ethics is a set of values, norms, and arrangements that regulate scientific activity. The six core principles include:

  • Autonomy: Respecting participants' self-determination and freedom of choice.
  • Justice: Ensuring research burdens and benefits are distributed equitably.
  • Beneficence: Acting to maximize benefits for participants and society.
  • Nonmaleficence: Actively avoiding the introduction of harm or distress.
  • Confidentiality: Safeguarding participant privacy and de-identifying data.
  • Honesty: Transparently reporting methods, results, and biases.
